Weekend comes and it goes…

Well, it’s the end of the weekend…this point always seems to come too soon for my taste. I would love just another day to sleep in and take it easy while not having to get to work to punch the clock. It always goes by way too quickly.

As far as this weekend itself, I ended up failing in two things I wanted to get accomplished/done. One, is finishing Jack Kerouac’s book, On the Road that I started reading the previous Sunday evening. I had hoped and planned to finish by the end of the weekend. Alas, I still have over 100 pages to go. The second thing is finding and purchasing a winter coat. I searched for hours on Saturday and part of Sunday to no avail. Seems that whatever coats there were in Orlando have been scooped up by others due to the very cold temps we have been experiencing here. I guess I will just have to order something online or simply wait until the Fall and buy one when I am back in Asheville.

On a nice note, I did get some aromatherapy lotions from Bath & Body Works over the weekend. I have really been enjoying the stress relief lotion I bought a few weeks ago and was glad to get a hold of some more during a sale the store was holding. Also, I had an always enjoyable lunch on Saturday at Dandelion Cafe. I hadn’t been up to the cafe since right before Christmas, so it was nice to have a great vegan meal there again.

Reading update

So, I have not been doing well in reading my Sherlock Holmes book…don’t get me wrong, it’s a great book, I just have been very mentally scattered and busy with the holidays. No more excuses though, the holiday insanity is over (even though we are going to be very slammed at work for the next 6 weeks) and I need to settle down and read daily. Decided that while I want to get through Sherlock Holmes, I am going to try reading another book first that is not filled with short stories and is rather one complete novel. Which one am I going to start with from my list? I am allowing myself the day to decide upon that. There are some great novelists on my list and while I am out today, the bookstore will beckon me. More on the decision later…. 🙂

2010 Reading List

I have high hopes for the new year. 2010 in my mind is going to be great. Yes, there will be downs with the good of course, but I plan on making it a year to remember.
This said, I have started to make goals for myself. One goal is to read more in the new year. I used to read a lot. Need to get back to that again, as I love reading. After deciding to do this, I had to think. How many? Just to allow myself to add new books that might come out, I’ve set my list at 25 titles. I would like to read at least 35-40 if I can though by year’s end. We shall see how that goes. Here is the list of the first 10 I plan to read. To be fair, I may end up adding something not on the list in here, but I do plan to definitely read the following:

1. Sherlock Holmes Vol. 1 by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
2. The Yiddish Policemens Union by Michael Chabon
3. Look Homeward Angel by Thomas Wolfe
4. Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
5. On the Road by Jack Kerouac
6. Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller
7. 1984 by George Orwell
8. Naked by David Sedaris
9. Red Harvest by Dashiell Hammett
10. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky

Starting before January 1st with Sherlock Holmes. Will begin to read this tomorrow.
